Animated Short Film

Good Life Permaculture and Australia reMADE and asked Tasmanians to imagine a climate safe future for lutruwita/Tasmania. This animation is our collective vision for a climate safe lutruwita/Tasmania.

Script developed from hundreds of public submissions by Hannah Maloney and Millie Rooney.

This film was made possible by a grant from Hobart City Council.

There is something so magical about listening to the bright voices of hundreds of people and then seeing their hopes come alive on the page. It's one thing to have a list of individual dreams, but to have a way to share that as a collective in a form that isn't just "information" but is story and emotion is really powerful.

I think my favourite part of the animation is where people are sheltering from storms underneath lots of individual umbrellas and then one big umbrella pops up. I love the way that conveys collective solidarity rather than individualised and isolated responses.

We know that collectively articulating and creating shared visions for what we want is a key piece of strategic work for addressing the climate crisis. And we know that connecting with people's feelings is also essential. I hope that people across the state use this animation to inspire each other, to remember that they are not alone in wanting a climate safe lutruwita/Tasmania, and to get involved in doing the work of love and care needed to create and maintain this very beautiful, very ordinary, paradise.
